Regular Servicing Saves You Money Long Term

I know servicing isn't the exciting stuff — nobody's posting oil changes on Instagram. But it's the most important thing you can do for your car. Catching a worn brake pad before it eats into the disc, spotting a weeping coolant hose before it blows on the motorway, picking up on a noisy wheel bearing before it seizes — that's what regular servicing does. It catches the small stuff before it turns into expensive stuff. I do full servicing at my workshop in Wicken for everything from classic Fords to modern daily drivers.

Oil and filter changes, brake checks, suspension inspection, fluid top-ups, belt condition, exhaust checks — it's all covered. If you're running a classic, the approach is a bit different. Carburettors need balancing, points need setting, older cooling systems need more attention, and there are things to look for that you just don't get on modern cars. I've been working on classics for over 20 years, so I know what to look for and what's normal for older motors. My own 1998 Escort GTI gets serviced here too — oil change at 500 miles on the rebuilt engine, regular checks, the lot. I practice what I preach.

"The cars that last longest are the ones that get looked after regularly. It's not glamorous, but a £200 service is a lot cheaper than a £2,000 repair down the line."

I also do MOT prep work. If you've got an MOT coming up and you want to know if there's anything that might fail, bring it to me first. I'll go over the car, check everything the tester will check, and let you know what needs sorting. That way you go into the test with confidence instead of crossing your fingers. If there's work needed — brakes, suspension, welding for corrosion, lights, whatever — I can sort it here before you take it in.

Wheel alignment is another one I see people neglect. If your car pulls to one side, wears tyres unevenly, or just doesn't feel right on the road, it's probably out of alignment. I can check and adjust it here. People drive over from Buckingham, Towcester, Northampton, and across Milton Keynes for servicing because they'd rather deal with someone who'll be honest about what their car actually needs rather than a chain that'll try to sell them an air filter they don't need.

What to Expect

01

Book In

Drop me a message on WhatsApp or give me a ring. Let me know what car you've got, the mileage, and when it was last serviced. I'll book you in and let you know what to expect.

02

Inspection

I go over the whole car — brakes, suspension, fluid levels, belts, hoses, exhaust, lights, tyres. If there's anything that needs attention, I'll let you know before doing any extra work. No surprises on the bill.

03

Service Work

Oil and filter change, fluid top-ups, and anything else that's needed. If I find worn parts that need replacing — brake pads, a track rod end, a dodgy CV boot — I'll talk you through what it is and why it matters.

04

Test & Check

Everything gets double-checked. Brake test, road test if needed, torque checks on the wheels. I make sure it's right before it goes anywhere.

05

Handover

I'll walk you through what was done, flag anything to keep an eye on, and let you know when it's next due. Straightforward, no jargon, no upselling.
